Who's Who

President - Alec Morrison

Alec is a natural choice as our President.  Along with our previous President, Ken, they are founder members of Perth Tri Club in 2007.  Alec is an inspiration to everyone in the club and never seems to be happy unless he's pushing himself to the limit.  With 2 x UK Ironman events under his belt and an additional foreign Ironman Lanzarote in 2010 (recognised as one of the tough events!) and Challenge Roth (Ironman Germany) in 2011 his commitment is clear.

Alec has an amazing ability to encourage and support and whether it's open water swimming at Lochore or hill reps on Necessity Brae he is there giving advice and help to all.

Primarily a cyclist Alec's fitness interests have evolved into Triathlon through his ambitions to compete at ironman level.  Not surprisingly he recommends cycle routes and tutors others in techniques and skills.  One word of advice though - when Alec tells you the route is around 25 miles, be prepared for twice the distance :-) - You have been warned!

Treasurer - Gary Horne

As treasurer Gary Horne is primarily responsible for the finances of the Club so when you write out that subscription cheque it's Gary who takes care of it.  Gary is one very fit and talented gent with an equally talented family - Gary teams up with his family regularly and they can often be seen sporting their latest triathlon medal.  2010 saw Roddy placed 2nd in his group in Edinburgh with dad Gary hot on his heals - yup a fairly competitive father-son thing going on there.  Thsi year the formed a strong team with iain Taylor and came third in Aberfledy Middle Distance.  No doubt about it, they form one of the clubs very own 'fit families'.  Gary was a runner previously but knee problem pushed him into cycling and now triathlon, it allows him to train, stay fit and exercise a great number of hours without 'battering his joints'.

Secretary - Jim King

Jim has been with Perth Tri for just over 3 years and he and his family form another of Perth tri's fit families.  He has A sporting background, primarily in skiing which he has enjoyed since he was in primary school.  Jim is a great example of a fit guy who moved into triathlon with limited swimming ability - practice, effort and commitment and before you know it he's completed his first half Ironman.  Jim and his wife Julie recently flew the Perth Tri flag in Geneva when they competed in the Geneva Sprint Tri with very credible results.  Watch this space - our Jim is a fairly competitive guy and has his sights firmly set on an Ironman as well as self imposed time limits for his sprints.

As Perth Tri's secretary Jim deals with correspondance from Tri Scotland and membership applications.

 Website - Cathy MacDonald

Cathy takes care of the club website and spends much of her time 'encouraging' her fellow club members to take photos and report back with news and race reports.  She is also the club communications officer with Tri Scotland.  Cathy has been involved in triathlon for around 6 years.  Originally a runner (but slowing steadily!) Cathy turned to triathlon as a fun and novel way to end her running season in 2005, at that time she had a borrowed bike and could only swim breast stroke BUT enjoyed the whole experience.   Since then her tri skills have evolved and she's hooked.  Also a founder member of Perth Tri Cathy enjoys shorter sprint distances (750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run) and it's ALWAYS a social occasion as she produces a bottle of fizz to celebrate at the end of each event. At the finish line you'll see most other clubs enjoying healthy stuff but at Perth Tri Club it's Fizz".

Welfare Officer - Steve Wilcox

Steve is a fanatastic character to have in Perth Tri.  He is positive, works hard at events year by year (to the point of throwing up !! - is that too much information?) and is always the first person to say congratulations or well done to others. He creates a real sense of fun as well as purpose at events and assists in the development of our youth triathletes with formal coaching qualifications.  Steve is our Welfare Officer, an essential role for any sports club who have young adults taking part.  As well as being legislatively authorised, Steve is the best person around for encouraging younger tri-athletes and is activley involved in Kinross High Tri coaching.

Steve also coaches Perth Tri in running techniques each Thursday evening and gives up his time withough comment or gruimble - Steve - you are a star.

He recently set a PB in Switzerland as he competed and represented Perth Tri in the Zurich Sprint Triathlon.

Press Officer - Katie

Perth Tri are proud to have a bubbly and enthusiastic press officer who supports us all at events and keeps the local press updated with our latest achievements. We love you Katie!

Katie became involved with Perth Tri Club after attending events and enjoying the cameraderie and fun atmosphere that goes along with the club.  A keen runner as part of her training for her first sport of curling in which is a past Scottish and GB Olympic representative.  Katie kept up with running after retiring from competitive curling and has taken part in numerous 5k and 10k events with friends and other members of Perth Tri.  Having recently taken up cycling and trying to improve on her 'school days' swimming technique her aim is to take part in a novice event! ........ and guess what - she's just been given a place at Grantown 2011 - go Katie go!
