CYCLE TRAINING

 12th Feb Cathy
 19th Feb  Rab
26th Feb  Ivan
4th Mar Derek
11th Mar   Johanna
 18th March   Alec

Each week, one of the regular club members will organise the cycle route, support new folk and make sure there's a good environment in which to develop.

The plan will be posted on the forum beforehand so please check that out.   No one will be left behind, and it's a perfect opportunity to work out your level, buddy up with more experienced cyclists and get those miles under your belt.

At the moment the routes are around 25 miles and that will increase during the season.

You must wear a cycle hat, come prepared for the weather and bring food and drink to keep your energy levels up.

RACE LICENCE

A race licence through Tri Scotland provides additonal insurance when training and competing, it's not just for the elite triathletes.  At £36 for the year it gives you discounted rates into events - if you intend to sign up for 4 or more events then having a licence will prove cost effective.

Having a race licence also allows you to build points at each race which coints towards your personal ranking and the club ranking nationally.  Click on the tri scotland logo for details

WHAT'S NEXT?

17 March is pretty much the first triathlon of the season and while we fully expect a chilly experience, there's nothing better at blowing the cobwebs off (please remind me of this while I am shivering and dreaming of ways to cycle in a sleeping bag!!).

11 of Perth Tri have signed up for this sprint triathlon south of Edinburgh and are all looking forward to starting the season in varying shades of blue (kit as well as skin tone!)

A favourite amongst the club is East Fife Tri at Cupar and already we have 25 members signed up for the sprint and 5 new members signed up for the novice - that will mark the biggest Perth Tri representation at any event to date.  Cupar is always a great event (although the cycle route definitely rattles the teeth a bit), it is always well organised and fun to take part in.  Cow bells and bucks fizz tend to follow us around at Cupar and the set up allows spectators lots of opportunities to support and encourage as the competitors go by. If you haven't signed up but would like to come along, see what it's all about and support your friends and family at the same time then mark this one in your diary for 8th April.

 FEATURED TRIATHLETE

Throughout the winter/spring months we'll feature some of our club members who will tell you a little about themselves and what brought them into the world of triathlon.  Our first is Ivan who joined Perth Tri Club last year and has been a bit of a whirlwind, totally embracing all that the sport has thrown at him and thinking BIG for the future.

Cinnamon and Raisin bagels with strong black coffee for the hours before the swim, topped up with Haribo or Jelly Babies just before the swim for that sugar boost.

  GIVE TRIATHLON A TRI

If you have ever thought about triathlon then this is the ideal time of year to put that thought into practice

Perth Tri are a friendly bunch and welcome new members and as Triathlon is the fastest growing sport why not give it a go?

Being part of a club helps so you are welcome to join us at any of our swim, cycle or run training sessions before you decide to join formally

Perth Tri training schedule is detailed below

Swim

Swim training and coaching takes place between 8pm and 9pm each Monday and Wednesday at Kilgraston School, Bridge of Earn.  From 1 January 2012 it will be £5 per month or £60 per year (direct debit arrangements).  Non members are welcome - £5 per session for up to 4 sessions before making a decision to join the club.

The pool is located at the back of the school.  Enter the school grounds via the main entrance in Bridge of Earn. Follow the driveway past the main building and round to the back of the School. There is parking space in front of the pool.
You must be able to swim at least 2 lengths of front crawl to take advantage of coaching.

Cycle

We try to meet at 10am each Sunday morning at South Inch Car Park, Perth HOWEVER, this is flexible and before meeting up it is essential to check the forum.  The club change cycle training dates and times to meet forthcoming events.  There are mid week hill sessions, Saturday rides, all ladies cycle training etc.  Due to the flexibility of this it is essential that you keep a good eye on the forum.  This is a free session.

Run

6pm-7pm each Thursday - hill sessions - meet at Tesco Car Park, Edinburgh Road (at cash machines)  - coached run sessions by Tri Scotland Coach.  Non Perth Tri Club members welcome as a taster session.

The 7pm - 8pm - track session will only take place over the winter if there is sufficient interest - at least 4 people posting on the forum/facebook so that the coach know whether to attend or not.

Meet at George Duncan Athletics Arena

(Perth Running Track next to Perth Grammar School)

 Additional Training

The above details our formal training days, however a substantial portion of training is informal and arranged by members in discussion on our forum.  You'll find groups will arrange ad-hoc training, runs, training at 50m Stirling pool for example, open water sessions, hill bike sessions  - that sort of thing
